1) The Mysterious Jewel Thief
A man wearing a long coat and hat concealing his face walks the streets, the leaves crunching as he steps on them. “Wait!” A woman shouts. “You forgot this!” She runs towards him and hands him a lunch box. “Ma! Don’t you remember you’re not supposed to pack me lunch?!”
2) 16:59 – We’re Not Late!
A group of students run for their lives, constantly checking their watches for the time. “Excuse me!” echoes throughout the building. Finally they reach the seventh floor. They burst through the doors and see their lecturer raising an eyebrow. “Sixteen hours, fifty-nine minutes and thirty four seconds!” They exclaim.
3) 3 Cups of Green Tea
Mylia stares wide eyed at the computer screen. She types like lightning, making sounds like a firing squad. She is exhausted, but the tea keeps her awake. She makes up her mind to finish the story. However, her mum switches off the router and is unable to post it online.
4) Why Fish Have Dark Circles
Jason wiggles his pinky in the fish tank, giggling at the squirming fish tickling his finger. “Do fish sleep?” He asks Holly. “Of course they do. Fish don’t shut their eyes when they sleep, that’s why they have dark circles around their eyes, you see?” “My Dad has them. Why?”
5) The Shower Of Doom
Lucas is home from school and takes a hot shower. Unknowingly, a figure blurred by the mist on the glass steps into the bathroom. The person holds up an axe and bangs against the glass. Lucas shrieks, startled. “Want some candy?” Ken unscrews the bottom of the axe and offers.
These are tightly written and well-organized. They’re lacking the spark of excitement necessary to encourage readers to want to explore more. Adding that creative energy to your writing may be a useful skill for your practise during this term. I’ll see what I can do to assist.
